Yoga Sutras Of Patanjali 3.42, 41, the Foundation of Kaali Meditation

    kāyākāshayoḥ saṁbandha-sanyamāt laghu-toola-samāpattesh cha ākāsha gamanam ॥ 3.42 ॥

kāyā = of the body, ākāshayoḥ = with space and time, saṁbandha = realising the relationship, sanyamāt = through the combination of absorption (dhāraṇā), meditation (dhyāna) and oneness (samādhi), laghu = the feeling of lightness of, toola = cotton floating in the sky, samāpatteh = by intense concentration on and merging with, cha = and, ākāsha = through sky, space, time, gamanam = floating, passage, movement, teleportation becomes possible.

    • “By realising the relationship of the body with space and time through the combination of absorption (dhāraṇā), meditation (dhyāna) and oneness (samādhi) by intense concentration on and merging with the feeling of lightness of cotton floating in the sky, the mystic power of floating and teleportation through space and time is achieved.”

Yogi Dhruvaji’s Commentary: Whenever we wish to cultivate an attribute, we can practice sanyama or complete contemplation on something which possesses that quality. In this sutra, Yogarishi Patanjali has us work with several elements simultaneously—the feeling of the lightness of cotton and the sky or space element around it.

    • When consciousness is absorbed in the lightness of cotton floating in the sky, space, and time around it, through the “Kaali” spaceless and timeless mantra, to the point that all other fluctuations within the mind become still, you will experience a sense of levity. It’s as if you are floating on air and can travel through space. Thus after-effects of such Kaaali Meditation may leave us feeling twenty pounds lighter and mentally and emotionally uplifted, open and free.

    shrotra ākāshayoh saṁbandha-sanyamāt divyam shrotram ॥ 3.41 ॥

    • “By realising the relationship of hearing with space and time through the combination of absorption (dhāraṇā), meditation (dhyāna) and oneness (samādhi) by intense concentration on and merging with the hearing of the sounds of nature while floating in the sky, the mystic power of divine hearing through space and time is attained.” share: kaaali.org/2. #basics #sources
The Three Easy Steps of Kaaali Meditation

    • (1) Kaaali Meditation is the silent subconscious (ajapā japa/mānasika), softly audible (madhyamā/upāṃshu) or louder/musical chanting/singing (vaikhari/vāchika) repetition of the timeless and spaceless “Kaaali” mantra

    • (2) while feeling the weightlessness of an imagined small floating lightweight cotton ball in the sky, and then from that aerial view

    • (3) visualising and sensing the beautiful winds, sunlight, rivers, trees, forests, nature, mountains, etc. on the ground.

    • “Kaaali” means to conquer and rise over kaaala or endless time, space, and sound by realising your free, boundless, and immortal nature.

    • Mantra is the sound or vibration that frees the mind and self and unleashes their full potential.

    • Japa means mantra intonation. Ajapā Japa is the spontaneous silent intonation of a mantra going on within yourself without your conscious effort. You can master it by practice.

    • Focusing on the weightlessness of a light small cotton ball (laghu toola) floating on the sky is explained in the Yoga Sutras 3.42 as the practice to acquire the Akāsha Gamana or Laghimā mystic power or yogic siddhi.

    • This practice causes you to gradually master the fusion of your body with space (kāyākashayoh saṁbandha) through the sanyama (dhāraṇā + dhyāna + samādhi) practice of Kaaali Meditation.

    • For 24/7 inner balance, you can continue doing it in the background of your mind while doing any activity in any posture. You could also just practice (1) in the form of “Kaaali” repetition when you can’t do (2) and (3). share: kaaali.org/1. #basics
